My fortune cookie today said: "You are not illiterate."

Oh, my.

Good.

  1. I think we all are somedays. And that's ok (at least in my world).

  2. Thanks, Copyboy. Like my moods, my literacy oscillates.

  3. Why, thank you, Cruella; it's always nice to get an affirmation from an attractive young woman :)

Did you do the artwork on the Happy Penguween on your blog? Cute!

  4. Hilarious and definitely a plus. (Hugs)Indigo

  5. What more of a fortune could you possibly want then? nice.

  6. Thanks, Indigo. It's a plus only if it's true. The jury's still out on that one :).

  7. You're right, Colene. I already enjoy a privilege that the majority of the world's population doesn't have the luxury to enjoy - literacy.

  8. Yes, Lynda, it was definately an LOL fortune :). BTW, thanks for coaching me on the difference between similes and metaphors in your latest blog post. Instructive stuff!

  9. Not really a fortune but good news all the same! ;P

  10. Well, not that we've gotten THAT out of the way...LOL!
I once got a fortune cookie that said, "You have tasted the sweetness and the bitterness...of coffee."
    Uh, thanks.

  11. L.T. - you know, now that I give some more thought to the logic structure of the statement itself...it says I'm not illiterate...but it DOESN'T say I'm literate. Maybe it's not good news? :)

  12. Wow, Lydia, remember when fortune cookies used to have fairly profound one-liners? They need better WRITERS! (should we apply?)

  13. That fortune cookie is a genius. Nailed you on the first try! :)

  14. Ack! I opened one awhile back and it was blank. What does that mean?

  15. Yes, Jennifer. Now imagine if it ALSO said "You're an absurist practicing literary cubism." That would be haunting.

  16. TC - it means that you get to fill in the blank and get whatever you want.

  17. Wow, that's awesome!!
*whew* what a load off! ;)

  18. Maybe, Heidi. Like I told L.T. above, it didn't actually say that I was literate, only that I'm not illiterate. Hmmmmmm.

I was taken aback by your recent kitty attack. I hope you heal quickly.

  19. What a great fortune, Mohamed. I love the fact that by the nature of the message, and you being able to decipher it, the 'fortune' has been proven to be true!! I guess there is a higher power after all :)

I must admit, though, sometimes we all need to hear the obvious!

  20. Thank you, Inna! I see that your logic and thinking is as nimble as ever. I hope that you've had some success with the Russian translations. Best wishes for a great day out there in Germany! :)

  21. That's a classic one! What would have been the result of the person opening that one had been illiterate?

  22. Thanks, Words Crafter. The result? He'd have woofed down the cookie and never worried about that small strip of paper with strange symbols on it.

I'm sending you prayers to help the migraines subside.

  23. LOL
I think that was a cheeky fortune cookie writer. They should make them sign their work. :p

  24. The oracle is correct! I will never again doubt fortune cookies.

  25. It sounds like whoever wrote that may have been, though. A tad bit. Jk. Very funny post. Thanks for sharing it.

  26. Wow. Maybe fortune cookies know what they're talking about after all!

  27. I don't know, Amanda. Maybe some of these fortunes are best left anonymous :)

  28. Well, Medeia, let's see how well my writing progresses these next few years and then we'll decide on the oracle :).

Hey, I'm surprised by your taste in movies but happy to see the diversity. I watched "Kick Ass" last night and actually enjoyed it.

  29. Samuel, Samuel...I know you teach creative writing at the college level, but please take it easy on the folks who write the cookie fortunes! :)

  30. The jury's out, K.M. We'll see.

I enjoyed your recent post on settings; useful ideas!

  31. Smiling is fun, Mrs.! And about writing: don't worry what "they" think; just keep writing.
