I'm speaking at the Unitarian Universalists of Fallston in Fallston, Maryland from 11am to noon on October 24, 2010. My talk, titled The Good Guys vs. the Bad Guys, explores scripture and other literary sources to sample cultural notions of who’s “good” and who’s “bad.” More details? Here's the press release.
Writing creates so many intellectually enriching opportunities beyond the written word. I look forward to a lively and enlightening interaction with the congregation of the Unitarian Universalists of Fallston.

Ah it sounds great -- I am so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Agnes. BTW, I absolutely love the casual styles that you're wearing in the photos that accompany your most recent blog posts. You look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood to know that, it is such an interesting topic, to speak on,I hope you would give us all the details, once you are back.
ReplyDeleteOoh, congratulations! Very exciting :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great news, Mohamed. Congrats! I am sure you will do a wonderful job there and bowl everyone with your talk. :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best for that talk.
I agree, Rama, it's an interesting topic brimming with potential for controversy and discord. But considering the forum, I know we won't evoke either. It'll be a respectful, open-minded discussion void of judgement.
ReplyDeleteHey, I was touched by your post about that box full of kisses. Each of us has one. I'll remember to go to mine more often.
Thanks, WritingNut! I see that you're cutting back on your blogging to focus energy on your WIP. I can't blame you. Can't wait to read excerpts from your WIP on your blog once you're ready to share.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your kind words, Rachna; it seems that you believe in me more than I believe in myself sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your latest blog post about strategies that writers can use to get visibility for their work, especially since your ideas come from the perspective of a writer in India. I haven't done much with newspapers but after reading your post, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for sharing great ideas with your fellow writers!
Good luck! You'll be great, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like it would be fascinating - I'm bummed I can't be there! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck. It sounds like a great topic to cover. Any chance you can post your notes afterward?
ReplyDeleteCongrats and good luck. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Talli. Living in London, I'm sure you understand the importance of harmonic co-existence of multiple cultures and perspectives.
ReplyDeleteShannon - please don't be bummed. Life is too short to be bummed about anything. BTW, I enjoyed your recent post on goals; you've given yourself such tough ones!
ReplyDeleteAnne - I hadn't thought of that but, yes, I think I should be able to post my talking notes (or excerpts thereof) after the talk. Hey, congrats again on publishing "Tinkered" through Pill Hill Press.
ReplyDeleteChary - Yes, I'm looking forward to it. It's always a joy to be able to discuss variant points of view without undue fear of emotional upset. Teaching high school in NYC must provide you so MANY ideas and/or vignettes for your creative writing :)
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunatly ,I do not know English very well to understand all these.
Hey Mohamed! It's very nice to meet you. I read a lot of you blog and you are truly a fascinating person. To have traveled and lived and experienced as you have is a dream for me, wow.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to "getting to know you" better. Hope you're having a great week!
That's OK, Amin. If you ever want to leave a post in phonetic Punjabi or Urdu, I might be able to answer in kind. I like the photos on your blog; very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Words Crafter. Honestly, you've given me more credit than I deserve. Yes, I've had the privilege of a well-travelled life. Now it's my responsibility to try to find a way to do some good with all those varied perspectives.
ReplyDeleteI too am a recent Mughal convert. Love your blog and best of luck with the sitdown discussion.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it will be a lot of fun. Good luck :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Copyboy. Despite my affinity for what some might call "serious" issues, I have a confession: I LOVE humor. Your blog is hilarious. Thanks for visiting our little cyber-community at "Thoughts and Ponderings."
ReplyDeleteMarnie - thanks; yes, the UU churches that I've spoken at have all had diverse audiences made up of intelligent, open-minded folks, so I'm sure it'll be fun.
ReplyDeleteAbsurdism is one of my chosen modes of literary expression. When I read real-world events like the one that you wrote about in your most recent blog post (the Chilean miner and his mistress), I realize that absurdist fiction can NEVER compete with the absurdism of real life.
So there.
Happy weekend! :)
This sounds like an extremely interesting talk. Good luck. I hope it goes well and opens doors. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ms. Ching. And I love your profile pic; very Lilith, very Eden.
ReplyDeleteEd and I will be at the UU of Fallston church, Mohamed!
ReplyDeleteJoAnn - COOL! I look forward to seeing you and Ed in the audience and to catching up with you both after the talk. Another couple is coming in from Pennsylvania, Ed and Adele, so it'll be nice to see a few folks from outside the UU of Fallston congregation join services that morning. Have a great Saturday!
