Pre-Christian pagan cultures celebrated the March equinox, paying homage to Eostre, the goddess of spring and fertility. Hundreds of years later, in 325, the Nicene Council established Christian Easter on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring equinox.
This Sunday, much of the world will celebrate the rebirth of a man who asked us to stop being so mean to each other. As he was reborn, may his teachings, too, be reborn. May we all, one day, follow the behavioral recommendations of Jesus of Nazareth.
Happy Easter!
